Pad.Quest

This paper pad is a casual dungeon delving game, where every decision you take has an impact throughout the path you chose in it's pages.

All you need to play is a pencil!

Instructions are written as a learn-as-you-play tutorial within the paper pad.

The idea behind Pad.Quest was to create something that could be a full RPG, even a casual one, but that could be played with the minimum of equipment beside the pad itself. Earlier iterations relied on dice or cut-away cards, and I considered using a phone applications to add randomness, but my ultimate goal was to get something that could be played with a pen only. Something that someone on a bus or in a plane can just whip out and play, without throwing dices around or even a quarter.

The result is kind of a game of chess against yourself. Randomness has been replaced by an overload of choices, making it very difficult to sit down and think of all the possible moves, even though I would be pretty proud if someone ever did... because I do it myself during the creation process of the pads themselves.

The pad on this page has been generated automatically by an algorithm. Each pad is about 65 pages long, but this is all parametrizable.  There is about 50 different paths (even though some paths differs by 1 page) per pad and each of those paths are verified to be solvable by another algorithm (there is a few of them) who can predict all the possible choices along the way, including the battles, as they are deterministic. The resulting choices amount to thousands of different way to play (and die) through the game. I make sure that each paths can be  visited, even after after a few rounds in the same pad, winning or dying... it is a Roguelite after all.
